Democrat Susan Sandberg filed Wednesday for Bloomington City Council, at-large.
She is currently serving her second term and was recently elected council parliamentarian. She is also the vice chairwoman of the Monroe County Democratic Party.
Her priorities, if elected to another term, include increasing affordable housing, advancing social programs for aging-in-place, alleviating poverty, strengthening the economy through arts and facilitating community-wide participation in civic affairs.
“I’m confident in my active listening skills and in my ability to study complex issues, set long-term goals and make the tough, independent decisions required to meet these goals,” Sandberg said in a news release.
Sandberg has served on the Bloomington Utilities Service Board, was president of the board for the South Central Community Action Program, was an advisory member for Centerstone and has volunteered with the Addicts in Recovery Program for New Leaf/New Life. She’s also a founding member of the Democratic Women’s Caucus.
Sandberg is an adviser in the career development office at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
She is the first candidate to officially announce a campaign for an at-large seat on the council.
